Hiking &Rafting at the Hamar-Daban Mountains

1 Day Valley of Snowy River

Today after the breakfast you will have transfer by jeep car to the southern corner of Baikal Lake (about 120 km drive, paved road). On the way there you will see Taiga forest of Olkha plateau until we reach Slyudyanka city on the south of Baikal. There we’ll have lunch in one of the road cafes with panoramic view to Baikal Lake and Hamar-Daban mountains where you’ll do rafting. Then we’ll continue driving to Vydrino village and further to the tourist camp which stands on the Snowy River.(70km more to go, paved road along shore line of Baikal Lake). From that base we’ll have a short jeep drive on the small forest road as far as jeep can get 

Upon arrival to that point we will start hiking with camping and rafHiking up the Snowy Riverting equipment along Snowy river up to the mountains. Hike distance is about 12 km, curved trail goes in the deep picturesque Taiga forest with a lots of high evergreen trees. When we will get to the bank of Snowy River we’ll pump our raft-boat and start rafting down Snowy River with all our equipment and gear. The rafting distance for today is not really long and waters of the river is quite, so today we supposed have first training course and build our new rafting team. Today we will land at the confluence of two rivers - Snowy and Selenginka where we’ll set up a tent camp for tonight. Dinner will be prepared for you over campfire.

2 Day Sable Lakes - Pearl among Hamar-Daban mountains

In the morning after breakfast we’ll take only necessary equipment for rafting and food for lunch and have a trek up the Selenginka River for about 12 km to reach the most picturesque and marvelous local landscape sights – Sable Lake and Fairytale Waterfall. First forest trail leads you to the beautiful mountain lake, where your guide will pump raft boat and offer you to have a boat trip across the Lake. You will go boating by rowing and definitely enjoy natural virgin beauty of this remote corner of Hamar-Daban Mountains and views of crystal clear waters of the Sable Lakes.

After crossing the Lake we will continue hiking through the woods to the Fairytale Waterfall at the canyon of Red Creek. It looks like huge water jet which coming out of wall of canyon and hitting another one.

Coming back to the Sable Lake, boating and hiking back to the base camp.

3 Day Rafting team on the way to Baikal Lake

In the morning after breakfast we’ll take only necessary equipment for rafting and have a trek up the river for about 6 km to reach the most interesting and exciting stretch of the Snowy River. There you’ll have white water rafting passing two big water-thresholds. When we get back to our camp we’ll have lunch.

After lunch we’ll gather our camping equipment and will raft down all the way to Baikal Lake over the waters the Snowy River. The river has many curved branches and rapids, from both sides of the river you’ll see Taiga forest. Total rafting distance for today is 32km. When you get to the vast waters of Baikal Lake we’ll load all camping and rafting equipment into the jeep car and have transfer back to Irkutsk. We’ll make a lunch stop in one of the local cafes.

Transfer distance is about 250 km, paved road.
