Meeting with Baikal

Day 1
Today morning we will have a drive to the western cost of Lake Baikal along the Preparing for a boat rideroad to Goloustnoe settlement. Road is partly paved and on two thirds gravel, passes via Taiga forest and beautiful river valley. Whole way will takes us about 1.5 hours of drive in the end of which you will see opened spaces of Baikal’s blue waters.
Upon arrival to the shore of the Lake we will cook lunch over campfire and prepare inflatable rubber boat with outboard engine for a ride to the ranger station located further north along the coast line and do not has a road access. All personal gear will be packed in special waterproof bags for rafting to protect them from a splashing Baikal’s waves. While boating to the station you will see incredibly transparent waters of the Great Siberian Lake, several gorgeous rocky shore cliffs and one interesting rock formation which look like an arch touching the water line.
Ranger station located at the long cape and surrounded by forest and several Ranger station placepicturesque rocks. Upon arrival to our destination we will get accommodation at the guest house of the ranger station and have a walk around the place.
Tonight we will have an experience of Russian steam sauna – Banya – which is located right at the shore.
After extremely host sauna you might get a refreshing swim in an icy cold water of Lake Baikal! Dinner served next to the evening campfire at the shore will complete this day.

Day 2Enjoying panoramic view at the top of the cliff
Today morning after the breakfast we will have a half a day trekking excursion. Hiking route goes first in a forest and then ascending a rocky mountain ridge to the top of the cliff which is a best observation point of this area. From this summit you could enjoy a wide panoramic view of Lake Baikal and neighboring shore’s mounts covered with Taiga forest. After ascending to this peak route goes for a while along ridge line and then descending down the forest valley. At this place you get a good chance to see some wildlife of this area: deferent kind of deer which are pretty common at this quite stretch of the shore protected by a Pribaikalskii National Park. We will trek back to the ranger station and Lake Baikal along the trail at the bottom of the forest Ranger stationvalley. Upon arrival to the guest house we will cook lunch. If a ranger will have resent luck with fishing you could try several local traditional dishes: Baikal fisherman’s soup “Uha” or smoked and grilled fish in a special way on the steaks over campfire.
This afternoon you will have some time on your own for resting on the gravel beach, walks at the neighborhoods of the ranger station. If there is an interest you could join the ranger for daily evening boat ride to install fishing nets at the local bay of Lake Baikal.

 Day 3
Today we will have another boat excursion along the coast line of Lake Baikal. Shore line of Lake BaikalWe will head further north to see lonely standing rocky island named “Baklanii Kamen” famous for one of the biggest colonies of sea gal birds. Previously common here bird Cormorant gave a name for this island (In Russian Cormorant is “Baklan”) and it use to be lot of them at this area. This bird species get extinct all over Lake Baikal and came back only in 2004. With certain luck we might see some of them around the island area.
Another stop would be taken on a place named Sandy Bay. This is a spectacular bay with a long sandy beach surrounded by two gorgeous high granite cliffs famous for its dunes, “walking trees” with open-roots and blue transparent lagoons. At this spot located a resort reachable by water transport only.
Coming back to the ranger station by the lunch time, where we will spend some time for a meal and rest.
This afternoon we will pack our staff in the boat, say “good bay” for a ranger and head back to the place of the shore where we left a car. After reaching this spot we will repack everything in a car and take a drive back to Irkutsk. Arrival to Irkutsk in the evening.
