Climbing tour to the highest peak of Eastern Siberia - Munku-Sardik

1 Day Historical center of Irkutsk city
Upon arrival to Irkutsk airport/ railway station you will be hospitable met by a local guide. Transfer to the local family and later walking excursion to historical center of Irkutsk. You'll visit the place where Irkutsk was founded at the confluence of two Siberian rivers: Irkut and Angara. The place is framed by three churches, two of which are Russian Orthrodox with golden domes and outer wall paintings and the third one is Roman Catholic.  You'll be served traditional Siberian food at the Russian restaurant. After lunch you'll take a walk along the streets of old wooden Siberian houses, decorated by curved doors and windows. You'll also have a chance to take a look on a central market which is a kind of typical Siberian bazaar. Dinner and overnight at the cozy dinner room of local family will finish this day.

2 DayTunka valley and Sayan Mountains
Transfer from Irkutsk to the Munku-Sardik peak region, which located in the Tunka Valley in the foot of the Sayan Mountains. The journey time is about 4-4.5 hours. On the way to Tunka Valley the road passes Lake Baikal. At your approach to Baikal lake the road precipitate spiral dropping down from the hill. There you may stop for lunch at the cafe with the beautiful view of the lake.
Then you pass Kultuk village, located at the southern extremity of Baikal lake. In this moment the road turns to the South getting away from Baikal. After 30-40 minutes driving into the Tunka Valley you enter the Republic of Buriatya.   The steppe surrounded with the steeple-roofed dents of Sayan salutes travelers, and staid cows walking along the road are not bothered by increasing civilization development. You feel the geographical nearness of Mongolia. Hiking in the canyon of Mouguvek RiverFinally, the road crosses the bridge over the Irkut River and we are getting in to Mondy village. This is a last Russian settlement in Tunka valley before Mongolian border. 20 km more of driving on gravel road will bring you to the start point of the trek trip to the Munku-Sardik - connection of White and Black Irkut rivers. Dinner at the local road café where you could try tasty Posy the classic example of Buriat ethnic cuisine.
Today will set up tent camp on the bank of the White Irkut River.

3 DayTrekking in the mysterious canyon of Irkut
This day we will take camping and other equipment that we may need for climbing trip, and start trek trip to Munku-Sardik mount. Not so far from camping place White Irkut has huge and majestic canyon, which we will pass through on ice of the river. High vertical rocky walls of canyon have different colors - black, red and yellow, in some places you can see beautiful icefalls.
After that canyon valley gets more opened and attractive view to the mountain surrounding appears. Today we will set up camp in the forest near place of confluence of two rivers - White Irkut and Muguvek. In the evening we will spend some time ice-climbing and ice-walking training in Canyon of Muguvek River.

4 DayHigh camp at the Ehoy Lake
After breakfast we will move our tent camp to Ehoy lake, which is just on a bottom of  Munku-Sardik peak. Here we will set up high camp from which climbing route to Munku-Sardik starts. On the way there we will pass several steep slopes of glacier moren, ice canyon of Muguvek and finally get close to Munku-Sardik mount. Altitude drop for today will be 1500 m. This evening we will build tent camp next to Ehoj Lake with amazing view to the summit and glacier ice-wall of Munku-Sardik and its mountain surrounding. Dinner and lunch for today will be prepared on a patrol burners.

5 DayMunku-Sardik Peak, view from lake Ehoj
Climb trip to Munku-Sardik mount with daypacks. Early in the morning we will leave tent camp and try to climb summit of Munku-Sardik peak.(3495 m asl) Climbing route mostly goes on glacier ice and snow except last stretch before the top, which looks like rocky mountain ridge. From top of Munku-Sardik you can have amazing panoramic view to the hundreds of kilometers around - Sayan Mountains, Oka plateau and Hovsogol lake in Mongolia!
Descending to the tent camp, lunch break.  After that we will pack all the camping and security equipment to the backpacks and continue descending to the forest zone. This evening we will set up tent camp near the place of confluence of two rivers - White Irkut and Muguvek.

6 Day Open air mineral hot springs
Hiking down canyon of White Irkut river, lunch at the local road cafe. Packing equipment and personal gear to the car and transfer back to Irkutsk (350 km). On the way back we will visit Hot Mineral spring again, here it would be possible to wash out all the traveling dust to feel yourself 100% refreshed. Lunch stop at the road cafe, after that continue driving to Irkutsk.
Accommodation at the hostel in the center of Irkutsk, festive dinner in a restaurant for conclusion of climbing trip to Munku-Sardik.
